An arcade style first person shooter where you have to blast your way through lots and lots of zombies
The House of the Dead 2 is a first person shooter that sets you back in the 90s video arcades where fun was guaranteed. The best and worst part about it is that it actually stays in the 90s in a lot of ways.
Action packet from the first minute
The game throws you in pistol first and facing various demons and zombies after just a few seconds of gameplay and keeps them coming throughout the entire duration of each round. Seriously, they just keep popping out all the time and from everywhere.
The House of the Dead 2 continues the story from the first Curien Mansion occurrences and places you in Venice where you have to fight off the forces of evil and rescue civilians. As you make your way through the game and your investigation, you soon come to the conclusion that the zombie spawns are created by Caleb Goldman and from that point on, the plot begins to thicken.
A true arcade experience
In terms of graphics, the game remains in 1999s quality and it is really bad compared to today’s standards. The cut scenes and acting are also rather bad but back then this mattered way less than it does now.
Overall the game looks bad but it keeps you hooked from start to finish and if you play it with a friend, it gets really fun. There’s nothing like running an old-school arcade game blasting bullets left and right at the heads of mindless zombies set to annihilate the human race.
Keeping the true arcade feeling, you only get to control the crosshair of the of your character’s gun and reloading when you need it, which happens a lot.
Way past its time but still enjoyable
With the graphics issue out of the way, they are bad but still good if you’re the nostalgic type, he House of the Dead 2 is still a great game to play on a lazy Sunday.

As you start the game, you are presented with a Victorian house that seems to be abandoned, and you can use various commands to interact with the environment: talk to, look, read, open, close, examine, move, press, get, or other.
Worth mentioning is that not all actions make sense in a particular situation, so you need to use the appropriate command to get a relevant result. At the same time, if you get stuck, you can always start all over again.
Note that you can choose to commence the game with the front of the house or in the entry hall via the Mystery House Preferences. Moreover, you get to adjust the window size and change the background color to the user interface.
Interact with other characters and use your wits to find the murderer before you are next
The point of the Mystery House game is to explore all the rooms in the house and talk with the seven characters that are also in the house with you. As you start the puzzle, you get to see the name hair color, or occupation for each of them.
However, while roaming through the house, you will find the characters dead in various rooms, so your job is to collect clues and discover which of the seven people keeps murdering the others.
To help you get around, Mystery House can keep track of all possible exits in a particular situation and updates the commands list based on your current situation.
The developers provide the game’s solution online, in a text document, but solving the puzzle on your own is a lot more rewarding.
Entertaining puzzle game that has you solving a murder mystery
Bottom line, Mystery House is a simple game that comes with minimalist graphics and has you interacting with the environment and collecting clues by using commands list or a limited set of actions.
The interesting part is that you must use your imagination and deductive skills to discover how you have used various objects and clues to identify the criminal roaming around the Mystery House.
